We all thought we would be better parents than we are- it's much harder than anyone can fathom before they do it. Don't beat up on yourself too much.

The homework in kindergarten and first grade is very simple in my experience. It won't take a lot of time. The rule of thumb is 10 minutes per grade. So you might have 5 or 10 minutes a couple of nights a week. See if you can enlist a teacher at school to help you work with Moosh. Sometimes in a power struggle a third party stepping in really helps. "Moosh I need your mom to read to you 10 minutes a day, then after she does you can write it down on this chart." Or something.

As for being too tired, we all are, don't feel bad about it. You could just be going through a low period also. Give yourself a break.

Yes, I know what you mean about thinking you'd be a better parent. We muddle on, as humans have for a long time.

Don't worry too much about homework, unless you have some direct info that the school you plan to send the Moosh to is big on it. Kindergarten, first grade, even second grade hasn't been that much homework for us. Though I hope for your sake that he gets over this don't-read-to-me phase. Because in K, that was the homework. "Here's a (very short) book. Read it to your child, or listen to them read it to you, depending. Done."

Doesn't this fit into the "this too shall pass" category. Perhaps in K he will want to read with you and be excited to show you what he did, and you will be excited to learn what he's doing?
